George

I arrived home from France early Tuesday evening, pulling my heavy luggage from the train station a few blocks away, to a beautifully manicured yard and 18 inch zucchinis in the backyard garden. George, my across-the-street neighbor had mowed and trimmed my yard to perfection, like he always does. And the zucchinis were real, from the garden he had planted weeks before I left for France (unlike the not-real ones--see http://margaretdyer.blogspot.com/2013/06/i-will-talk-of-my-time-at-international.html).
All he ever wants is a thank-you. I give him more when I can. But I'm told I won't be able to thank him until he returns from his 4th of July camping trip. He had recently rekindled a relationship with his high school sweetheart; they were in the north Georgia mountains. They were going to look at houses up there on Monday.

George died in his sleep Friday night. 54 years old. I won't be able to thank him for everything he has done for me in the short time I've known him.

  1. Oh what a last post. Blessings and love to George as he goes forward on the other side. You were blessed to have known him and you were blessed to be in France at the same time. I was painting in the Lot Region of France with DreamaTollePerry.

Oh no Margaret... Jim and I are SO sad to hear this. Can't believe it, really....He had called several times since we were there last and he was planning to come see us after the holiday rush sometime. You know we didn't know him that well, but he was a loving soul. I will treasure the birdhouse he made for us. He sent us pics of your studio ceiling and your garden while you were in France.

  3. I am so, so sad to hear this. You were just telling the vegetable story in France 2 weeks ago! I'm so sorry for your loss, Margaret. What a wonderful neighbor he was for you.

  5. Margaret, I am so sorry to read of this. Special people come into our lives often for such a short period. Clearly a mutual appreciation and gratitude for one another you both shared; I am so sorry for your loss of a dear neighbor and friend, and the loss in this world of a caring and good soul.

  6. Margaret, I am sorry to hear this ... I know you feel you lost a very good friend. He was way too young to die. But, you were blessed to have known him even if for a short time. My prayers are with his family and friends!

  7. OH Gosh! How this makes me think about my own existence. So sorry this happened and no words would make this any better than how sorry I am for such a sweet person to go so suddenly.
