LAUNDRY DAY FOR JESSICA, sold
I'm on my way out the door for Wisconsin. Just one click before I leave to send this picture out.
This is Jessica. The same Jessica of a few posts ago, with the black shawl. I spotted her across the room at the Atlanta Bread Company. Gorgeous, with a mane of curly hair. I feel predatory when I do this, but I crossed the room and asked if she'd pose for me. Gave her my card with a link to my website. She checked me out and then gave me a call. I was able to shoot her and get a piece into a local show within the week.
Jessica, if you're reading this, you'll hear from me again--I've just been awfully busy.
Now I'm gone to the snowy north.
A STORY BEFORE BED, sold
This is my next door neighbor and her little girl.
I leave tomorrow morning, very early, for Kimberly, Wisconsin, to teach a 3 day pastel class. After I agreed to teach there a few months ago, I hung up the phone and thought about what I had just done...Wisconsin in February????? All of the sudden, for the first time in my life, I feel southern. Having been born in New York, and raised in the south by New Yorker parents, I never quite related to southerners. But now, at the thought of flying into Wisconsin and facing 10ยบ weather and snow, I'm quite intimidated. I don't even think I have the proper clothes. I'll report on how I fared when I return home next Monday.
Maybe, just maybe, I'll get some gorgeous photos of snowscapes. Maybe, just maybe, I could put a few up on this blog. Time will tell.

ORANGE CHAIR, PURPLE ROBE, sold
Another one of Catherine.
And a thing about nudes. I have a deep appreciation for these women who are so comfortable standing naked in front of a group of artists. I never would be able to do it. I'm extremely modest. Never went skinny-dipping, couldn't imagine taking my clothes off and running naked into a pool with people--even in the 60's, during the pop festivals, when so many stripped naked and jumped into mud holes. At the Atlanta Pop Festival, where you could see all the people copying the Woodstock thing, naked in a muddy pond, I was the only one still in jeans and a halter top.
I guess I have some missing genes, the sense-of-direction gene, and the take-your-clothes-off gene. Oh, and maybe one more...the balance-your-checkbook gene.

BLACK PANTS, SOLD
People have asked me why I paint women. First of all, I'm comfortable with women, having come from a family with 5 girls. My brother came last in line. And second, I love trying to capture the graceful, natural poses, when the subject is unaware (or looks like she's unaware) that she's being put to paper. Third, I have no idea why I'm compelled to draw the figure. It started when I was 18 in my first figure drawing class. I loved it. Still do.

SARAH, sold
See, I told you. Another face. Sarah is the beautiful daughter of Karen Kinser, a talented figurative artist and marketing master in Chesapeake, Virginia. Karen hosts art workshops in her home studio, Blackwater Studio. I recently taught there to a room full of lively, interesting artists, who, during the class, created beautiful work as well. A dinner with wine one night with Karen, Kate, and JoEllen made the weekend especially memorable. See the links at the right under Blackwater Workshop to see Karen's work and JoElle Murphy's. If any of you artists from my Blackwater class want me to put a link to your site, please contact me. I'd love to put you up there as well.
