La Rotonde Cafe, Paris
I'm beginning to feel good. That may not seem significant, but it's quite a statement since I've been unable to say that for almost 3 years. I've been in a very dark place, thus, the silence in my blog. But with final divorce papers in my hand, I've relinquished all hope of repairing a broken marriage, and I'm determined to make the most of this new chapter in my life. That said, things are happening quickly here. My second year lease at this sweet, small and safe Villa Rica studio apartment ended almost exactly as my divorce papers arrived. Having just seen an Edward Hopper exhibit at the SAM (Seattle Art Museum), I am again wonderfully mindful of the use of light as an element in painting. This piece reminds me of Hopper's use of intense contrast of lighting and how it can draw the viewer's eye wherever the artist chooses.
ReplyDeleteMargaret - I was surfing on the Internet and came across your site. Your work is outstanding. I love your color choices especially for flesh tones. I've been an avid believer for years now that more than red, white and yellow make flesh. I saw your work (Asian girl seated with umbrella), which gave me your site address. It is so good to see someone taking pastel to the levels you have.
ReplyDeleteI worked in pastel years ago and moved into oil paint. I paint figures primarily in oil and use pastel for the freedom and excitement I get by the process pastels offer.
I couldn't agree more that the human form is a painters dream. Again I just want to add your color choices and design are superb. It was a real joy finding your work on the Internet.
If you don't mind I'd like to add your site to mine.
